The English-born artist and botanical illustrator Margaret Mee
was profoundly interested and awed by Brazil's wildlife and flora,
and her contribution to the study and dissemination of information
about the country's plant world was highly significant. As an artist,
she garnered local and international recognition for the sensitivity
and botanical accuracy of her watercolours. The constant degradation
of the regions she visited on her travels around Brazil fortified
her belief that the preservation of the environment depends, in large
part, on the awareness and commitment of educators and leaders of
opinion. Her dreams of participating in the preservation and research
of Brazil's natural treasures only started to come true one year after
her death (Introduction, Margaret Mee Botanical Foundation)
Editorial coordinator and curator: Sylvia de Botton Brautigam
Researcher and Assitant to the Curator: Elizabeth Wynn-Jones.
